If you own an electric car or want to purchase one soon, you’ll need to know what EV incentives exist to help defray costs. Many states offer rebates and tax deductions, like electricity rate discounts or bill credits, to make the transition to electric vehicles more attractive. These bonuses can also apply to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), fuel-cell electric vehicles, electric motorcycles, and more.

This article outlines the incentives available in each state. Because state incentives continue to evolve, we will update as new information becomes available. See our story on federal incentives to find out about those.
