Special Report: NatMed, January 10, 2026

The new year has quietly begun. As the calendar turns a page, we can already hear the clatter of horses’ hooves, galloping closer and closer. At this juncture, the Canadian Chinese Civil Engineering Association is organizing…Ontario Building Code Annual Meeting–The overview, renewal, and building permit application process has already begun.

The association invited William W. K. Wong, an exclusive speaker, to give presentations on: 1. The Building Permit Application Process; and 2. An Overview of the OBC (Building Code) and Key Updates. William W. K. Wong previously served as Chief Building Engineer and Manager at the City of Hamilton (1971-1999), Director of Building and Mechanical Planning Examinations at the City of Mississauga (1999-2016), and Chief Building Officer at the Town of Bradford (2016-2024). He is also a former university lecturer on building codes and the ObC, and a building code consultant. His presentation was insightful, well-structured, engaging, and highly informative, leaving the audience with much to learn.

After the intermission, the second half was a Q&A session, co-hosted by William W. K. Wong, Mengdi Zhen (architect, founder of Z Square Group, founder of Nestwood Home, and venue sponsor), Wenyan Cai (structural engineer with 15 years of experience), and Dan Xu (project manager with a mechanical engineering background). Following brief introductions, the Q&A session began. They answered questions from over forty attendees in detail and with rigor, occasionally interrupted by laughter, creating a lively and warm atmosphere.

As dusk fell and the light rain pattered down, the report drew to a close. Finally, by the organizers: The Canadian Chinese Civil Engineers Association presented souvenirs to the four guests on stage.
That’s right.A new year brings new beginnings; let us join hands and create a better future together.
