Royal Caribbean International’s Spectrum of the Seas arrived in Hong Kong on Sunday, marking the cruise ship’s return to the city as its homeport.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board welcomed the cruise ship’s return, noting that around 270,000 total cruise passengers had been recorded in the first nine months of the year, marking a 22 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The board also projected that Hong Kong is on track to record nearly 190 cruise ship calls this year, representing a 26 percent year-on-year increase.
“This involved 22 different international cruise brands, reinforcing Hong Kong’s status as Asia’s Cruise Hub,” said HKTB Chairman Peter Lam Kin-ngok.
HKTB said the city has attracted 10 vessels from nine brands in November, offering a total of 19 calls.
Among these, five ships, including Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice, Costa Cruises’ Costa Serena, Astro Ocean Cruise’s Piano Land, StarCruises’ Star Voyager as well as Spectrum of the Seas, made Hong Kong their homeport or turnaround port.
Meanwhile, HKTB has integrated cruise travel options into its Hong Kong Incentive Playbook, which is designed to cater to corporate meetings and incentive travel groups.
This new theme showcases how cruise tourism can enrich business travel experiences with on-board meetings, teambuilding, fine dining, entertainment and on-shore excursions.
