Little Norway, No Stop!

By NatMed Oct.11 2023

One day in May, the tower crane at the construction site stopped and I went home early. Just after noon, thinking that the website I was going to build needed photos of some intersections near the lake, I drove on the road to the lake. Turn onto the path on the right, follow it, and turn left. Since this was my first time passing here, I felt very unfamiliar with the road conditions and surrounding environment. The car was driven cautiously, eyes constantly looking left and right for fear of missing something. Although there were not many cars, bicycles and pedestrians on the road at noon, I still felt a little overwhelmed. When I came to a traffic light intersection, I didn’t know it was BATHURST until I passed the intersection. I looked up in the rearview mirror and saw a police car following me. I didn’t think much about it at the time and kept driving forward. Not long after, when I looked in the rearview mirror again, I suddenly noticed that the lights on the roof of the police car began to flash. It was obvious that I had committed a crime. How is this going? I felt like I was in a fog. I’m completely confused. Everything looks well, but why is something happening? There was no choice but to park the car on the nearest roadside. A very gentlemanly policeman walked up to the car. I looked at him with confused eyes, and he said slowly: “You didn’t stop at the stop sign.” What? ! Where is the Stop sign? Why didn’t I see it. The police also saw the confusion on my face. After a moment’s hesitation, he took my ID and returned to his car to proceed with his normal operations. I sat in the car, my eyes glazed over, and I was at a loss. I couldn’t understand what was happening. After a while, the policeman returned with a ticket. I finally came to my senses and asked him if he wanted to be fined and deducted points. His answer was yes. I felt very frustrated. Was Broom Star coming to visit today? There was no money for leaving early, and now there were additional fines, and the most terrifying thing was the deduction of points. Having already had a criminal record before, the insurance would definitely increase this time. Was this why I came here today to buy this ticket? I was more unjust than Dou E’s injustice!

For the rest of the time, I kept thinking, where the hell was hanging? Why didn’t I notice? The knot in my heart has never been untied.

Just like that, a few days later, I caught up with the day to get off work early. Naturally, I took another walk along my previous route to see where the problem lay. After arriving at QUEENS QUAY W, where the accident occurred, the road starts from the west section of the LITTLE NORWAY CRESCENT. The originally not wide road was divided into two parts: a motorway and a bicycle lane. Both bicycle lanes are located on the south side of the road. This way the motorway will be further away from the roadside. Stop sign is located on the side of the road and is difficult to spot. Moreover, the size of the Stop sign is normal size, which also increases the difficulty of detection. In addition, roadside stop sign is more difficult to read due to the constant traffic of vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians on the road. Usually in this case the Stop sign needs to be enlarged to make it easier to spot, but here it is still standard size, which is very unreasonable. It was noon at that time, the sun was shining from overhead, and the influence of the surrounding leaves made it difficult to detect the Stop sign. Last, the most important thing was, this was my first time here and I was very new to this place. I was too focused on watching the cars, bikes, and pedestrians on the road to think about anything else, so I missed the stop sign.

While I was taking photos to collect evidence, an aunt came over. When she understood my situation, she blurted out: “The cars here don’t stop.” It can be seen that it is not just me who did not stop, but it is a common phenomenon. This further proves that there is something wrong with the sign’s setting. It’s not that everyone didn’t stop on purpose, it’s that they simply didn’t see the sign.

Therefore, I want to file a lawsuit in court. Now we are waiting for notification from the court.
